Oregon Head Start 2009-2010 Directory Now Available

The Office of Student Learning & Partnerships, Early Childhood Programs, Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten program, produces this directory annually. Revisions to the directory are solicited in August of each year, which allows time to print and distribute by early fall.

The Oregon Child Care Resource and Referral Network's website, www.oregonchildcare.org, is being used as a "clearinghouse" for information about the H1N1 pandemic.  Check it regularly for the most up to date information and links. 

You should also keep checking Oregon's Flu website, which has the most current flu information from across government agencies: http://www.flu.oregon. Those without easy access to the internet or with urgent questions can call Oregon's Flu Hotline: 1 800 978-3040 (open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM PT).

State of Oregon Employee Furlough Days

As many of you may know the State is requiring several furlough days as a cost reduction measure. Not all state agencies will follow this schedule - ODOT has a variety of ways they will meet the challenge for different programs.

Portland State University, the Center for Career development will be closed December 21-28, 2009.

Most state agencies, boards and commissions will be closed:

Charles Eugene Beatty - Head Start UnSung Hero
The City of Ypsilanti Michigan may be known for its University or its Water Tower or its Greek Heritage, but in Early Childhood Education it is known for High Scope. Important to know, though, there would be no High Scope without one man – Charles Eugene Beatty – Principal of L.C. Perry Elementary School 1940 – 1970.

Mr. Beatty, called “Chief” by those who knew him best, was a champion in many ways that led ultimately to his leadership in the community and championship of education, Early Childhood Education and Head Start, specifically.
