Job description

Under general supervision, performs a wide range of facilities maintenance trades including but not limited to carpentry, painting, plumbing and locksmithing to contribute to the safety and function of Head Start and Early Head Start sites and facilities. Performs trouble shooting, installation, and minor repairs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Performs basic construction work, including constructing and maintaining wood structures (i.e. landscape structures, small sheds, and basic furniture), repairing shed roofing and non-skid stair strips, and installing bulletin boards and wall hangings. 2. Assembles, installs, relocates and repairs furniture, modular wall partitions, shelving, file cabinets and bookcases. 3. Paints, stains and seals walls, ceilings, doors, window and door frames, handrails, siding, and cement; paints parking lot stripes; removes graffiti. 4. Performs basic plumbing repairs, including unclogging toilets. 5. Repairs locks; makes keys; installs and repairs door hardware. 6. Fuels, cleans, and performs routine daily checks and preventative maintenance on all equipment used. Operates equipment, tools, and vehicles in a safe manner. 7. Inspects sites for needed repairs or potential safety hazards, makes corrections, and reports unique hazardous conditions to facilities management. Responds to work order requests in a timely manner, and communicates closely with the project requestor to provide details of project scheduling and completion. 8. Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly fashion ensuring personal and public safety is a priority while performing work duties and during project clean-up. 9. Performs basic vehicle maintenance and repairs. Additional Duties 1. Reports suspected child abuse in accordance with Oregon Statute and Head Start procedures. 2. Ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. 3. Attends training sessions and participates in training opportunities. 4. Supports and encourages parent involvement. 5. Works as a team with staff in providing services to children and families. 6. Maintains the confidentiality of highly sensitive information. 7. Interacts with children, families and community members in a supportive and professional manner. 8. Serves as back-up driver during emergencies and/or short notice situations. 9. Performs all other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications • High school diploma or GED certificate • Training and/or experience in facilities maintenance • Experience working with diverse backgrounds of the College’s community, students and employees; demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity • Current driver license, insurance, and the ability to be insured by the college insurance carrier to drive college owned or leased vehicle. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history Additional • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training must be completed within 60 days of hire date • Introduction to Child Health and Safety training must be completed within 30 days of hire date Desired Qualifications • Locksmith certification • Completion of a technical, vocational, apprenticeship program and/or certification in carpentry, painting, plumbing, or facilities maintenance Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) • Ability to frequently lift 50 pounds on a daily basis and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds, without assistance, • Ability to work at heights of 12 feet on a ladder • Ability to wear protective body gear including respirator, face mask, hardhat, body suit, ear protection, knee pads, safety glasses, and gloves • Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials • Ability to read, understand and apply information on detailed written instructions and labels • Knowledge and understanding of occupational safety precautions and regulations such as OSHA, ADA, and building and fire codes • Ability to communicate effectively and present and exchange technical or complex information • Ability to maintain basic record keeping to track expenditures and budget • Beginner (limited) skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications, all preferably within the Microsoft Office Suite. • Ability to work effectively as a member of a crew and independently IMPORTANT INFORMATION Mt.
