Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties Job Summary; Under the general direction of the Teacher, prepares materials for the classroom, ensures safety of students and staff, assists with meal service, and helps implement developmentally appropriate curriculum. Guides and directs volunteers and children. Position Specific Duties; 1. Assists in the planning and implementing of a developmentally appropriate classroom environment and curriculum. 2. Assists in the implementation of the program’s policies and procedures and Positive Behavior Supports in facilitating social and emotional development of children. 3. Encourages experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making; asks open-ended questions and listens respectfully to children. 4. Assumes responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the teacher. 5. Completes observations documenting children’s strengths and areas for growth. 6. Assists Teacher in maintaining accurate written records, including ongoing assessments, anecdotal observations of children and other required forms. 7. Prepares and maintains classroom materials and a clean environment. 8. Assists with meal services and meal reports. 9. Assists with the implementation of parent involvement plans including evening parent services as assigned. 10. Supports implementation of an individual education plan for each child. General Duties; 1. Reports suspected child abuse in accordance with Oregon Statute and Head Start procedures. 2. Attends training sessions and participates in training opportunities. 3. Promotes and encourages parent involvement. 4. Works as a team with community agencies and other staff in providing services to children and families. 5. Maintains the confidentiality of highly sensitive information. 6. Interacts with children, families and community members in a supportive and professional manner. 7. Performs all other duties as assigned.
