Position Summary The Assistant IT System Administrator is responsible for assisting in the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This role ensures that the organization’s IT systems, networks, and security protocols operate efficiently, reliably, and securely. The Assistant IT system Administrator plays a key role in daily technical operations, user support, and long-term IT planning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to: Server & Network Administration Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows, Outlook, etc.). Monitor network infrastructure, firewalls, and routers to ensure optimal performance and security. Manage backup and disaster recovery systems. Security & Compliance Implement and monitor cybersecurity measures (firewalls, antivirus, patch management, MFA). Conduct regular vulnerability scans and audits. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations (e.g., HIPPA, FERPA, NIST). Support data privacy and protection initiatives. User Support & Help Desk Escalation Provide support to resolve technical issues. Assist staff with support tickets and guide resolution strategies in a help desk role. Create and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles. System Upgrades & Maintenance Plan and execute software updates, system patches, and firmware upgrades. Monitor and maintain uptime and reliability of all critical IT systems. Maintain and test backup and recovery procedures regularly. Cloud and & Virtualization Support Administer cloud services (e.g., Microsoft 365). Maintain virtual environments and support hybrid infrastructure. IT Asset Management Track and maintain hardware and software inventory. Manage licensing and renewals for enterprise software and security tools. Evaluate and recommend new technologies to support business goals. Collaboration & Documentation Collaborate with other departments to understand and support IT needs. Maintain detailed documentation for systems, configurations, and policies. Assist with IT planning and budgeting by identifying infrastructure needs and lifecycle planning. OTHER Perform all other work-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required High School Diploma 1+ years of job experience working in the IT field; admin work preferred. The ability and willingness to assist with different devices, levels of technical know-how and knowledge. Sufficient English proficiency to comprehend both oral and written directions. Preferred Associates in the IT field (networking, programming, cybersecurity). 1+ year(s) of experience with the administration of Microsoft 365’s suite of tools and services. Experience with Intune, Entra, SharePoint, Exchange, etc. Certifications for Microsoft 365 and other certifications are a plus. Valid driver’s license, proof of insurability, and cleared state driving record check.
