Head Start programs celebrate March as National Reading Month.

Literacy is one of the core components of Head Start programs, which is why we are excited to celebrate March as National Reading Month!

Children of all ages – even infants - benefit from reading. Research shows that there reading with your children supports cognitive development, improves listening and language skills, expands their vocabulary, promotes creativity and is a great way to build connection. It also prepares children for academic success.

As your child’s most important teacher, you can support their educational development by simply enjoying story time together. Not only will you build lasting memories, you will also be building the foundation for your child’s future success.

Head Start programs emphasize early and development to help Oregon’s youngest and most vulnerable children a chance to begin public kindergarten well-adjusted and ready to learn. Learn more about a local Head Start program near you.
