Job description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: · Follow and support the classroom schedule and routines as developed by the Teacher. · Assist the Teacher in the preparation and implementation of lesson plans and classroom materials to support a developmentally appropriate education program. · Support exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, and socialization as developmentally appropriate. · Use CLASS observations and feedback to inform teaching practices and enhance child/teacher interactions, as well as identify areas for professional development. · Apply developmentally appropriate guidance and behavior management according to program policy. · Assist the Teacher in adapting curriculum to meet individual goals for children as identified in the My Teaching Strategies Report Card. · Support the successful inclusion of children with special needs. · Provide a welcoming atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom and monitor the engagement of parent volunteers. · Work in partnership with classroom staff to encourage collaborative team interaction that facilitates respectful relationships and embraces diversity and constructive problem-solving. · Develop and maintain consistent, positive relationships with children, treating them with dignity and respect. · Set and maintain respectful and professional boundaries with families. · Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy, orderly and nurturing classroom environment. · Facilitate safe and effective transitions between activities. · Responsible for reviewing the Active Supervision and Safety Plan with the team on a quarterly basis and providing feedback as necessary · Ensure that no child will be left alone or unsupervised. · Strictly adhering to all safety policies and procedures at all times and respond/correct any at-risk safety issues immediately. · Work closely with families to resolve barriers, disagreements and conflicts that hinder self-sufficiency. · Conduct home visits as needed. · Provide families with regular access to classes and trainings as requested. · Assist families in developing their individual goals including regular follow-up on to identify progress, barriers to progress, and/or services received. · Provide families with timely information and referrals appropriate to their needs. · Assist with planning and facilitating families’ orientation to the program, families’ engagement in Parent Site/Center meetings, parent’s participation in Policy Council, and weekly family update meetings. · Coordinate and confer with Family Services Assistants and/or Family Services Supervisor as needed. · Assist Teacher or enrollment staff with late season enrollments as needed. Document, develop and maintain regular contact and communications with families. • Actively participate in team meetings. · Collect, analyze, and record objective and complete observations on children using My Teaching Strategies as required. · Assist Teacher with initial screenings, medical protocol, mental health referrals, and daily health checks. · Serve and track meals and snacks to classes according to program Food Service procedures. · Maintain confidentiality when working with children and families in all written and verbal communications and documentation. · In partnership with the Teacher, assist with determination of child’s initial health status and developmental needs. · Assist families in completing all follow-up on dental, medical, physical, and mental health needs. · Utilize ChildPlus to enter education, health, and family services data as required. · Support teacher with the taking and entering of program and school district attendance. · Utilize ChildPlus to produce monitoring reports as required. • Understand and implement the appropriate policies and procedures and performance standards as prescribed by the Office of Head Start and the Community Action Head Start Program. • Strictly adhere to agency code of ethics and standards of workplace behavior. · Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs including regular and reliable attendance and adherence to all company workplace behavior standards.
